Open for business

Cumnock Writer’s Space, formerly known as the Dark Teatime of the Soul, is a home in regional NSW offering free short to medium term residencies to postgraduate researchers and writers.

Managed by visual artist Alex Pye who is currently a masters candidate at Sydney College of the Arts, her aim is to offer a quiet place for writers to focus on their work away from the pressure and distraction of the city. The house is a creative space, equipped with a workshop that Alex uses.
Cumnock is located 70km west of Orange, about 4.5 hours drive from Sydney. It has a population of 250 people and is surrounded by sheep, cattle and grain enterprises. The town has a pub, bowling club, public pool and general store.

Facilities offered to writers for free include high speed wireless internet and a private room for the duration of their stay. Each residency duration is negotiable and dependant on the needs of the writer.

The Space will launch in early 2014.
